The Tick-Magnets are always celebrating something….a new well-placed cache, a new geo-buddy to the game, a trip to caches unknown, or just hanging out with good friends around a coffee table. Well, February 29, 2012 will be no different…. it is time to celebrate!!!
Leap Year--- the addition of 1 day to the calendar every 1,460 day just so we can keep the calendar year in sync with the astronomical and seasonal year. Without the addition of these 24 hours every 35,040 hours, we would be having Thanksgiving in 100 degree heat with 100% humidity. No turkey and stuffing can be good in those conditions. There are 3 COMMON years (non-leaping) and then 1 Fabulous Leap Year just so we can keep our April showers in April and October Harvest Moons in October.
This, my friends, is reason to celebrate. And if this is not enough, Geocaching.com has announced a special souvenir for the cachers that log a cache or an event on February 29, 2012. So why would you not come out and get your Leap Year Souvenir.
Join us February 29, 2012 at 7pm at the local coffee grind for some java and sweets. There will be plenty of swapping of hints and hunting stories of the new caches in the area. There may even be a door prize or two.
