The Battle of the Atlantic rages (the single longest campaign of WW2).
February 10th - HMCS SPIKENARD (Flower Class Corvette) torpedoed and sunk by U136 south of Iceland while escorting convoy SC.67....57 perish, 8 survive.
September 7th - HMCS RACCOON (Armed Yacht) Torpedoed and sunk by U165 while escorting convoy QS.33 in the St Lawrence River. No survivors, 37 lost.
September 11th - HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN (Flower Class Corvette) torpedoed and sunk in the St Lawrence by U517. Ten lost.
September 13th - HMCS OTTAWA (River Class Destroyer) sunk by two torpedoes from U91 in the North Atlantic while escorting convoy ON.127...heavy losses.
A U-boat sinks the ferry SS Caribou...killing 137.
Things are grim.
