Celebrating Canada's 150th birthday, cache by cache, year by year.
The DARK years continue not just for the NAVY, but for the Army and Air Force as well (not to mention the struggles of those that stayed back and kept the home fires burning). I continue to educate the cacher as a member of the RCN...with no disrespect intended to the lack of info on the other services.
February 6th - HMCS LOUISBURG (Flower Class Corvette) attacked and sunk by Italian aircraft east of Oran while escorting a convoy from Gibralter to Algeria. Heavy losses.
February 22nd - HMCS WEYBURN (Flower Class Corvette) lost to a mine off Gibralter.
April 21st - HMCS PORT COLBORNE (River Class Frigate) is launched!
September 20th - HMCS ST. CROIX (Town Class Destroyer) torpedoed and sunk by U305 south of Iceland while escorting convoy ON.202. 81 were rescued by HMC ITCHEN, but only one of these survived the loss of the ITCHEN two days later.
October 21st - HMCS CHEDABUCTO (Bangor Class Minesweeper) sunk after a collision with a cable vessel 30 miles from Rimouski, Quebec. One lost.
