Geocache Description:

Celebrating Canada's 150th birthday, cache by cache, year by year.

When will this war end? Fortress Europe still stands.
April 19th - HMCS ATHABASKAN (Tribal Class Destroyer) sunk by a torpedo for German Torpedo boat T24 while operating in the English Channel. 128 die and 86 are captured (the cacher will note that the last Tribal Class destroyer in the world is in Hamilton Harbour and may be toured).
May 7th - HMCS VALLEYFIELD (River Class Frigate) torpedoed and sunk by U548 south of Newfoundland...125 die.
July 1st - MTB 460 (Motor Torpedo Boat) lost to a mine in the English Channel. 10 lost.
July 7th - MTB 463 lost to a mine in the English Channel (no human loses).
August 8th - HMCS REGINA (Flower Class Corvette) torpedoed and sunk by U667 off Cornwall England. 30 lost.
August 21st - HMCS ALBERNI (Flower Class Corvette) torpedoed and sunk by U480 off of the Isle of Wright. 59 lost.
October 25th - HMCS SKEENA (River Class Destroyer) wrecked in a storm and grounded near Reykjavik Iceland. 15 lost.
November 24th - HMCS SWAWINIGAN (Flower Class Corvette) sunk by torpedo from U1228 with all loss of all 91.
December 24th - HMCS CLAYOQUOT (Bangor Class Minesweeper) Torpedoed and sunk in the approaches to Halifax harbour by U806. 8 lost.
The tide is turning, Fortress Europe has been breeched, Uboat losses are mounting. Beside, HMCS FORT ERIE (River Class Frigate) was launched on 27 May 1944 (a model of this ship may be viewed at the Royal Canadian Legion in Welland).
