Geocache Description:

A quick drive-by cache for those wanting to take in great views. We literally parked within a metre of the cache- but please take care, there are often lots of muggles about. Please ensure you replace the cache carefully to ensure it is not obviously visible. NB: Watch out for No Parking signs after dark. Take some time to look at the great views of Penrith Lakes and the rest of the Hawkesbury region from this 264m vantage point.

NOTE: Recently the council have, for some strange reason, installed no parking signs for late at night, so if you swing by there after dark, please check before you park, or you may be interrupted by some of the local police and be fined. Hawkesbury Lookout has some spectacular views of the surrounding area, but mainly the Penrith Lakes Scheme. Hawkesbury Lookout is situated on the eastern escarpment providing panoramic views over the Yellowmundie Regional Park to the Nepean River and Cumberland Plains and on a clear day the skyline of Sydney is visible. The Penrith Lakes Scheme is the result of three quarry companies working together to achieve the co-ordinated extraction and rehabilitation of a flood plain north of Penrith. Penrith Lakes Development Corporation was established as a joint venture in 1979. Today the corporation quarries sand and gravel from the flood plain. The Penrith Lakes Scheme is a major restorative project to develop a former industrial sand and gravel quarry into a metropolitan regional park and water-based recreational area. On the park’s completion, it will offer 700 hectares of lakes including a main lake large enough to host international sailing competitions, a dedicated wildlife lake and several smaller lakes. Just 3km from Penrith, the park will contain 1,000 hectares of parklands as well as 300 hectares of urban land containing a blend of rural and urban lifestyle dwellings. The park currently operates the Sydney International Regatta Centre and Penrith Whitewater Stadium. Rehabilitation works by Penrith Lakes Development Corporation to date include: The planting of more than 40,000 native trees with 200,000 more to be planted. The maintenance of water quality standard to swimming standard. The establishment of a natural ecosystem within the lakes and in the surrounding parklands. The successful introduction of native fish species to the lakes. As much as i loathe micro's, after six years, I have decided to change this to a magnetic mint tin, to try and keep the avid council workers at bay. Please place back out of sight. Congratulations- FTF Honours go to the Western Woylies!
