Geocache Description:

Bawtry is the gateway to the north and has been a market town since it was granted its first charter in 1213. It was home to several Roman Military Camps during the occupation and is more famous for it’s links with The Pilgrim Fathers. It was from the Inland Port within the village that they first set off on their famous journey. Bawtry Hall served the Royal Air Force from 1941 – 1984; first as HQ for No. 1 Group, Bomber Command during and after WWII, then as Strike Command HQ up to and including the later stages of the Cold War. The famous bombing of the airfield at Port Stanley by Vulcan bombers from RAF Finningley during the Falklands conflict was co-ordinated from the operations room at Bawtry Hall.

Nowadays Bawtry is a busy town with a great mixture of old and new, bars, boutiques and history!

The cache is located where the countryside meets the modern architecture.

Parking can be found in the centre of the village on the old Marketplace (small charge) from here this cache and the several other Bawtry caches can be reached by foot very easily. Access to this cache is good (watch out for dog poo!). Enjoy the modern artwork!

Pencil/Sharpener/Special Lapel Badge for FTF in cache.
