Geocache Description:

The old stone bridge near to St Paul's Church.

This used to carry the main road between Jarrow and South Shields over the River Don. It also carried two gas mains. On 21st May 1921 it was the target of a terrorist attack when an explosive device was planted on or near to one of the gas mains. Because of the nature of the surface of the bridge, it probably isn't suitable for wheelchair access. (rough cobbled stones). The cache itself is a 35mm film cannister.
