Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This event cache is to help fill a gap in the calander which only comes around every 4 years and also to put a face to the names that keep appearing on logs.
'In the 11 years and 9 months since the first geocache was placed, there is a single date on which only a small fraction of geocachers have ever logged a cache. That's because this particular date has only happened twice in Geocaching history; it's February 29, also known as leap day.'
In case there are any newcomers to geocaching reading this and wondering whether to come along, there is no charge for attending a geocaching event. The only cost to you is your own parking/bus fare and your food and drink! (Someone was asking me about this yesterday in passing, so thought it worth a mention here.)
Where: In the back room of The Bayshill pub, 85 St Georges Place (on the corner of Little Bayshill Terrace) Cheltenham GL50 3PP. (01242 524388)
Time: I will be there from about 18:00 till roughly 20:30 with a raffle of assorted geocaching related items for the 'FTF prize draw' being held at about 19:00.
Its up to you how long you stay, if you just want to pop in to log the event or stay and have a catch up and a chat. There's no dress code!
Why?: To meet up with fellow cachers, make some new friends, catch up with your old friends, talk about caching among other things, exchange ideas, exchange and discover/show travel bugs and coins and possibly even give each other (me) some hints on devious puzzles!
But really WHY?: Because it is a leap year, because there's a February 29th, and if you haven't considered trying to fill in your caching calendar yet, you might possibly regret not doing it before your next chance! For those who have already filled in the date, you can come too and just meet up. Any other excuses also accepted, you don't really need one.
Parking: I recommend St George Street Car Park as bigger (N51'53.933 W 002'04.901) or Royal Well car park and fairly near (access from Chapel Walk) (N51'53.928 W 002'04.761).
Wheelchair access: the front door is not ideal with 2 steps, but they do have a ramp they put on the step at the side door or back door. (Do call them or contact me if you would like more more information.) There are a few spots at the back of the pub for disabled parking (please let landlady know if you do use their parking spaces.)
We'd like this event to be particularly welcoming to new geocachers (as we are too!) If you have any questions, please do email me through my account.
