This micro cache is located near the Alander Mtn. cabin.
This watchmens cabin is all that remains of the Fire Tower that used to sit on top of Alander Mtn to keep a watchful eye out for any forest fires that might pop up. Unfortuatly one did begin, and no one was on watch that day. Most of the areas forest burned to the ground in the next days.
The fire tower was erected on private land with permission before the fire, and soon after the fire the state of N.Y. was asked to remove the tower since they did not fulfill there responsibilities as stated in the land lease agreement.
Now the cabin is open to campers and hikers alike year round on a first come bases at no charge. There is no water or out houses available, just a nights stay for free near great views of N.Y., Ct., and Mass.
