Cache facile sur le barage d'Arzal.

Construit en 1970 à l'embouchure de la Vilaine, le barrage d'Arzal vient bloquer la marée qui remontait auparavant jusqu'à Redon. En période de vives-eaux, la marée venait contrarier l'écoulement des crues, provoquant des inondations à répétition de la vallée.
Le Barrage a permis de réduire notablement les risques de débordement, même si la région reste toujours sensible aux grandes crues de la Vilaine qui draine, rappelons-le, une superficie équivalente au tiers de la Bretagne.
En régulant à l'amont le niveau du plan d'eau, le barrage facilite aussi la navigation sur la rivière ; il a permis le développement de plusieurs ports de plaisance. (Arzal-Camoël, la Roche-Bernard, Foleux, Redon).
Une réserve d'eau douce de 50 millions de m3.
En arrêtant la marée, le barrage d'Arzal-Camoël crée un plan d'eau douce favorable aux activités touristiques. Il est aussi mis à profit pour assurer l'approvisionnement en eau potable.

Built at the mouth of the Vilaine, it isolates the lower basin of the ocean.
It is part of an extensive program of the development of the valley of the Vilaine, decided in the 60's to facilitate economic development in the region.
Built in 1970 at the mouth of the Vilaine, the Arzal dam blocks the tide which used to go to Redon. In times of spring tide, the tide had just upset the flow of flood, causing repeated flooding of the valley.
The dam has reduced significantly the risk of overflowing, even if the region remains susceptible to large flood of the the Vilaine which drain , remember, an area equivalent to one third of Brittany .
By regulating the upstream level of the water, the dam also facilitates navigation on the river and has allowed the development of several marinas. (Arzal-Camoël, La Roche-Bernard, Foleux, Redon).
A supply of fresh water to 50 million m3.
By stopping the tide, the dam-Arzal Camoël creates a body of fresh water-friendly tourism. It is also used to ensure safe drinking water.
