A cool little historic spot in Barrington a lot of people probably don't know about. There is parking for one car at the entrance to the cemetery on Tyler Point Road. Do not try to access it from any other direction or block any private driveways. Dogs are not allowed in the cemetery so leave your four-legged friends at home or in the car when you find this.
Taken from the official Rhode Island historical cemetery database website: At the time that 20 Revolutionary War veterans were buried here, this ground was already an old cemetery. In his 1898 "History of Barrington, Rhode Island" Thomas W. Bicknell traces its history in detail (pp. 466-468). The cemetery is in the area of the first meeting house and training field, established at the end of King Philip's War. Although the town tried to acquire the burial ground as early as 1727, "New Meadow Neck Burial Ground" remained in private hands until March 18, 1854 when Jesse Davis and wife deeded it to the town. There are 300 burials in this cemetery, ranging from 1702 to 1897. It seems to be very well maintained. As with any other cemetery cache, please be respectful. If you've found other 4Swans' caches, you should know exactly what you're looking for. Please bring a writing utensil with you and rehide as you found it. This should be a snow friendly hide unless we get a huge blizzard.
