Fairhope Nature Preserve:
What makes it a preserve rather than a typical park? The Clean Ohio funds obtained for this project can only be used to preserve and protect valuable natural resources such as wetlands, streams, woodlands, etc. as are found at the Fairhope Nature Preserve As a result properties purchased with these funds can only be used for specific purposes such as passive recreation (biking, fishing, hiking etc.) educational experiences, and preservation of natural resources (wildlife, woodlands, water, etc.). The property cannot be used for recreational activities like ball fields or golf courses. These distinctions between the allowable uses give the Fairhope Nature Preserve is unique designation as a nature preserve.
Plans for the Fairhope Nature Preserve include two fishing ponds, with one designated for children, as well as a picnic pavilion, open space and walking and biking trails. A small sled-riding hill also is planned. Trails at the preserve eventually will be connected to the county trail system as that continues to develop.
Please remember this area is a nature preserve and that no damage is to be done to the area while geocaching.
Tread Lightly - Nature Preserve closes at dusk.
