Geocache Description:

This cache was inspired by IDA—HO (GC3565), which was archived after a 10-year life in the Ida Lee Park. The passage of time has seen much growth at the park and this multi-cache will give you an opportunity to see much of the park.

You should be prepared to walk/hike approximately 2 miles during this tour of Ida Lee. You should also be prepared to use your field skills to determine coordinates, projections, and distances. We anticipate that the full journey through Ida Lee should take a couple of hours – it’s definitely not a cache and dash. Note the difficulty rating. There are a fair number of twists and turns along the way. Follow the instructions closely – sometimes to the letter.

Stage 1: Located at the posted coordinates and the start of your new tour of Ida Lee Park. At this location, you are seeking a tulip. Once you find it, you will want to pick a few pieces of information to help you in your journey to Stage 2. This particular tulip has a number associated with it.

To guide you to a new latitude, use that number as a seed, multiply the seed by 2 and subtract 6 from the result. The first letter in the last line of the information source will point you in the right direction to determine whether to add or subtract that amount to the decimal portion of posted coordinates.
A new latitude encourages a new longitude. Multiply the seed by 3. You are close but need to subtract 40 from that result. To determine your new longitude, refer to the second word of the last line. The first letter of that word will point you in the wrong direction, so subtract or add your result to the decimal portion of the posted coordinates.

Staying on a path is the safest way to reach stage 2, enjoy your walk and reflect on what you encounter.

Stage 2: The sign at this location both explains what is here and provides you with necessary information to project you toward Stage 3. Count the number of words/numbers in each of the first five lines (A, B, C, D, E) of the message and put them all together (ABC.DE). Divide the resulting number by 2 to determine your direction from true north.

While a direction is enough to get you walking, you should be dedicated to a distance also. Multiply a dedicated day by 100 and multiply a dedicated month by 16. Add those together and you will know how far away Stage 3 is.

However, please don’t walk as the crow flies. To the extent possible, stick to the path until safe passage can be made.

Stage 3: You have a choice to make here – have a good foundation for that choice. You are sentenced at this stage to count toward Stage 4. Multiply the number of words in line 1 by 10 and add the number of words in the next to last line. Add the result to the decimal portion of the latitude of where you are standing.

Next, build a three-digit number (ABC) from the word count in the first three lines (A, B, C) before your sentence begins. Subtract 6 from your result and then subtract that result to the decimal portion of the longitude. You are now ready to journey to Stage 4.

Stage 4: For something different, there is a physical container at this stage. Read carefully and follow the directions for your journey to Stage 5.

Stage 5: It’s a tale of two years here (and at a later stage.) The last two digits of the larger year should be added to 200. Add this to decimal portion of the latitude at this location. Subtract 8 from the last two digits of the smaller year. Subtract the result from the decimal portion of the longitude.

Easy enough and you are ready to head to Stage 6. Be alert as you will probably be exposed to some park visitors and their vehicles during this leg of the journey.

Stage 6: Sit down facing south, take a break, enjoy the view. Earlier, you were encouraged to make a count during a journey – that two-digit count probably came up a touchdown and an extra point short of (Dirty) Harry Callahan's favorite number. So, add 7 to your counting result (to get a number that should start and end at 4) and you need that information now. By either feeling blue or focusing on the southern exposure (but not both), count the number of arrows below your seat and multiply that by 100. Add the adjusted saved count to that result. Set your compass to that result and start walking. What? You want to know how far? That would take the challenge out of this. Trust us, whatever will be, will be – you will know when you are there and stick to the trail for a walk that is no longer than the stage you just did.

Stage 7: Thanks to friends of a friend of the park, you can take another break here. Let’s take another trip down memory lane. Find the difference between the two years from an earlier stage and add the difference to 100. If the names of our honoree here is in alphabetical order, add the result to the decimal portion of the latitude; otherwise, subtract it. Recall your saved count from earlier and add that to 100. Add the result to the decimal portion of the longitude. Break is over now, start your journey to Stage 8.

Stage 8: Seek a sign that will point you toward the final. This sign will provide you with an alpha and an omega. Calculate the difference between those. Subtract 21 from the difference. If dedication is more than a dozen, then subtract that result from the decimal portion of the latitude. Other wise add the result. To determine the longitude offset, add 31 to the difference between the alpha and the omega. If dedication is less than 12, then add the result to the decimal portion of the longitude, Otherwise, subtract the result.

Final: The final is an ammo can artfully concealed. Even in middle of growing season, we anticipate safe passage to ground zero. That being said, mind the cache attributes.

Congratulations (a.k.a. Well Done) to jeffnerner for the FTF!
