Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you near the residence of the Morningside Ogre's lair.

The lair is uphill from the cache location. You'll have to venture up through the underbrush if you want see the entrance into the darkness... which is along the large retaining wall at the top of the hill. (This is a beautiful area of the park but it is not well maintained and there is lots of garbage up near the Ogre's Lair. Venture there at your own risk.)

Morningside Park is one of the most beautiful and under-appreciated parks in New York. The network of paths and staircases takes full advantage of the topography of this area. Make sure to check out as much of it as you can.

The park was designed in the late 1800's by landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (co-designers of Central and Prospect Parks). They also had some help from architect Jacob Wrey. You can read more about this on the NYC Parks website: (visit link)

You can view some historical photos of the park at this link: (visit link)

GPS tends to bounce around quite a bit here so be patient.
