Simple, small, Park & Grab located near a major island intersection. You should be able to park within a couple of feet of its hiding spot but be aware that you are out in the open for all to see. Log only, BYOP
Cache is located at just about the mid way point of a north/south drive on Roanoke Island, and about mid way between the barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean and the mainland. First to Find honors go to semessen.
From the nearby intersection NC 345 will take you south to the fishing village of Wanchese. Business US 64 runs north through the town of Manteo, US 64 Bypass takes you east to the Atlantic Ocean as well as west across the nearby four-lane Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge and to the rest of the U.S.
The 5.2 mile Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge is the longest bridge in the state and was named after the first child born in the Americas to English parents who were members of Sir Walter Raleigh's 1587 Roanoke Island Colony that mysteriously disappeared.
To retrieve/replace this cache you will be in plain view of Muggles that frequently visit the nearby Apothecary, a historical name for medical professionals who formulated and dispensed materia medica to physicians, surgeons and patients — a role now served by a pharmacist.
By the 15th century, the apothecary gained the status of a skilled practitioner. However, by the end of the 19th century the medical professions had taken on their current institutional form with defined roles for physicians and surgeons. The role of the apothecary was more narrowly conceived as that of pharmacist (dispensing chemist in British English).
It was an apothecary in William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet who sells Romeo an elixir of death with which Romeo commits suicide.
