The Masterton Railway Station was opened on the first of November 1880. The station is on the Wairarapa line.
Today, The station sees around ten passenger services on weekdays and four on weekends, as well as the occasional freight service.

The original station (pictured above) that opened in 1880, included a goods shed, sheep and cattle yards, and an engine shed with coal and water facilities.
In the early years of the Station, the Wellington to Napier Express train passed through on its journey, this happened until 1908, when the Wellington-Manawatu rail companies line was purchased and the train was re-routed.
Today, the only passenger trains to stop here are the Wairarapa Connection services between Wellington and Masterton, operated by Tranz Metro. The Train consists of several SW carriages (ex-british mark two), pulled by a DC, DX, or DBR locomotive. The journey takes around one hour, forty minutes.
