The Te Rerenga Tunnel Track leading to this cache starts close to the Carpark Coordinates
S 37.56.849 E176.09.176
This track is a 2.0 km (Return) loop track, which is easy walking first through Pine Forest and then meanders through regenerating bush following the Te Rerenga Stream.
About halfway along the track there is 60m hand-hewn Tunnel which was built with pick and shovel in the early 1930's. Take a torch and follow the directions staying to the correct side of the Tunnel, as instructed by the signs. The track is well maintained with boardwalks over the stream bed.

I have walked this Track several times over the last couple of months. The stream has been dry even after very heavy rain.
The cache container is a 1.2ltr Black Systema Container and contains a log book and assort small swaps.
There does not appear readily available information as to the History of this Tunnel. I will try to find out what I can and update the Cache Page.
No Cell Phone Coverage
Dogs are Allowed on the Track but are required to be on a lead.
Campervan Parking is allowed for Vehicles with a Self Containment Certificate(see image for details)
The Park main gate is closed at night and opened in daylight hours only. Summer hours are from 7am to 9pm, including Labour Weekend to Easter. Winter hours are from 8am to 5pm.
