The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just over a year and a half, the quest has grown to over a two hundred ten caches hidden in twenty-two Indiana counties, and the hiders have grown to seven cacher teams, six of which are comprised of A Man and His Dog... and one who is a Dog and her Woman. 325 cacher teams have logged over 3,200 finds.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #210

”Old Needle in a Haystack "

Welcome to the Coatesville Cemetery, Clay Township, Hendricks Co, Indiana south of Coatesville. This is a very modern cemetery. I came here looking for the grave of Mathias Masten, a Revolutionary War Veteran. After walking around the entire site I was somewhat perplexed about where would a Revolutionary War Veteran be buried in this new cemetery. It took some searching but I finally found the older graves...there are only a handful of them.

Unlike most of the Graves of Revolutionary War Veterans I have visited, this has the origional and a modern marker. The origional stone is still in place although laying flat on the ground Mathias Masten was born on March 9, 1765 in Delaware and died on November 9 1856. I have made the stone a little easier to find given it is very close to the cache and that all the Mastens are buried in the same area. His stone contains a large masonic symbol.

This is the modern gravestone of Masten. It is located directly in front of the old one. It also contains the masonic symbol.

Please leave the cache at least as well concealed, if not better, than you found it. If you find fallen or worn US flags at the graves of veterans, please take a moment to upright or replace them. Dispose of worn US flags in a respectable manner.    If you find the coordinates to be a little off, do not hesitate to post a waypoint with your log.  As always, be respectful, and cache in, trash out.

WARNING:  FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!

"Indiana Spirit Quest" is brought to you by the following fellows of GEOISQ*: The SixDogTeam, Kodiak Kid, THE SHADOW, Team Shydog, Rupert2, Torry, ~Mystery Dog~, and Team Tigger International."
