INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #214

”Caching in Stile"

Welcome to the Stilesville Cemetery, Franklin Township, Hendricks Co, north of US40 (the National Road) in downtown Stilesville. The picture above is the grave of the wife of Jeremiah Stiles. The cemetery land was donated by Stiles in 1827 after Stiles was forced to move his wifes remains from across the river into higher ground. The sign further indicates that along the west fence of the cemetery is located the unmarked graves of at least twelve immigrants who died of food poisoning while traveling the National Road from Ohio to California in 1849.

The above grave is that of Revolutionary War Veteran Joel Garrison. He was born in Cumberland County New Jersey in 1760 and died in 1835. As a Private he served as a Drummer for the Contiental Line.

The above grave is that of Lieutenant William Denney, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. This grave was a complete surprise to me, which I (quite literally) stumbled upon while returning to my car. Lt. Denney's name does not appear on list of any Patriots of Hendricks County that I have seen to date. I have contacted the SAR to hopefuly find out more about this unknown Patriot.

If you find fallen or worn US flags at the graves of veterans, please take a moment to upright or replace them. Dispose of worn US flags in a respectable manner.    If you find the coordinates to be a little off, do not hesitate to post a waypoint with your log.  As always, be respectful, and cache in, trash out.

WARNING:  FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!
