What a LarKEY! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

McWalkies: Unfortunately we no longer have a car and it is too difficult to properly maintain this cache using public transport. Thank you to everyone who has found it and awarded a favourite point. It was fun while it lasted!

Geocache Description:

The cache is a locked box in a green bag, in Larkey Valley Wood, an ancient woodland that was given to Canterbury City Council in 1932 by the then Lord Mayor, Alderman Frank Hooker in order that 'it should be reserved to the public forever'.

It has been placed with the kind permission of the Canterbury Countryside Officer, and Natural England.

The above coordinates are for the car park which is in Cockering Road.

In order to find the cache you will first have to track down and find the 'key' which will open the box. The box now opens with a combination lock and the number you need is attached to a travel bug, also called 'What a LarKEY!' It also has the details of the coordinates with it. All being well it will be in a cache somewhere in East Kent. After finding the cache please jumble the numbers on the combination lock and place the TB in another East Kent cache as soon as possible - though preferably not a puzzle cache!

Larkey Valley Wood has been designated a nationally important Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Please help Natural England to preserve the beauty of the natural surroundings by respecting their request that you stay on the waymarked footpaths as much as possible, being careful at all times to avoid any damage to the environment or disturbance to wildlife.

You can find the cache by following either the blue path for a 1km walk, or our preferred red route (which for some reason starts with a yellow arrow!) for a 2km walk. Both paths begin behind the large millstone at the back of the car park.
The terrain rating of 3 that we have given the cache is for the red route which has steep gradiants on some sections. The blue route has uneven sections but is easier. Both paths can be very muddy - wellies recommended!

Congratulations to PPRDG0 on your FTF!
