Geocache Description:

5 mile walk round trip on partially paved path along Russian Gulch Creek. Trail to the falls starts in the park just east of the campground. If you don't want to pay the entrance fee, you can walk an extra mile, park on Point Cabrillo Drive and walk into the park. Bring snacks, water and prepare for rain in winter.

The first mile is nearly flat and then you start to climb slightly. The last 1/2 mile is a single track trail that climbs to about 250 feet of elevation, culminating in a dramatic and beautiful 36 foot high waterfall.

The canyon is heavily forested with conifers while the riparian area is dominated by alders, willows and big leaf maple. In mid-winter (January/February) listen carefully as you walk along the creek for the sound of splashing water as you may be lucky enough to witness steelhead trout in full spawning mode.

This little gem of a park is slated for closure in July 2012 due to California's budget woes. Visitors should still be able to walk into the park, but camping, car entry and services will not be available.

It was hard to establish the coordinates due to dense tree cover. Using a second GPS unit yielded a slightly different set of coordinates that you may want to use if needed.
