St Peter ad Murum, Bradwell on Sea
The St Peters Ring series of caches were launched at the Essex Camping Event 2012 GC34WN4, and are designed to start from the campsite, although you can start anywhere you like along the route as there’s no bonus to worry about, see suggested parking waypoints for details.
Throughout the series, I’ll use the short description to give you any guidance that will help you find your way to the next cache, and the long description will refer you back to this page.
The route follows the coastal footpath from St Lawrence Bay, round to St Peters Chapel via Bradwell Marina, and returns along the St Peters Way footpath via Tillingham, a total distance of 19 miles, but if this is a little too far don’t panic, there are a couple of shortcuts so you can break your journey into smaller routes.
The walk is mainly on public footpaths although there is one short section (SPR 55 to 57), that follows the Bradwell Road out of Steeple which can get very busy with traffic and the verge is not very wide due to overgrown vegetation. I’ve reported this to the Essex Rights of Way Team and hope it will be cleared in time for the event, but please take extreme care along this section, especially with small children and dogs.
The coastal section of the walk goes through a Site of Special Scientific Interest and all the geocaches in this area are 35mm film containers placed within a couple of metres of the public footpath, so you do not need to extend your search much further than this.
No Geocaches are placed in habitats which are sensitive to trampling or other disturbance, in particular there are two types of habitat which are close to your route i.e. salt marsh and shingle plant communities which are both special interest features of the SSSI and are to be avoided.
To minimise disturbance to birds in the SSSI, you must keep dogs under control and on a lead when in or near habitats likely to support ground-nesting birds including salt marsh, grazing marsh and shingle. You should also be aware that this ideal habitat for adders so please bare this in mind when looking for caches.
I thought it would be a bit of fun to name each cache after a Geocacher who attended the event or supported me in some way , I should stress they are not in any order of superiority, just when the “Will Attend” log was made.
If you would like to know more about St Peters Chapel, please follow the link to Church Mirco 546 GC1PBAG laid by Mcwomble by clicking Here. Details of the St Peters Way footpath can be found by clicking Here.
If you attend the camping event, you can claim FTF on any new cache you find over the weekend.
Hope you enjoy finding series, happy caching.
