West Melton airfield, just six minutes flying from Christchurch, is operated by the Canterbury Aero Club. Canterbury Aero Club is based at Christchurch International Airport and is New Zealand's largest Aero Club.
Canterbury Aero Club members have a unique opportunity to train at an international airport and be exposed to a busy controlled aviation environment. However the Club has the best of both worlds with the West Melton airfield providing an area for training or flying, away from the busy commercial airport, when necessary.
This is a simple multi cache. The co ordinates take you to a “craft”. You will find the craft and then the cache WITHOUT CLIMBING any fences. DO NOT ENTER airfield paddocks. On finding the "craft", walk on in the direction of where the craft nose is pointing you and you should discover a 1.8 litre cache container. Cache contains theme related items, log book and pencil.
Saturdays are a good day to visit this area as there is usually activity in the skies and on the airfield.
