Geocache Description:

The first of a mini series taking a peek at some of the remaining features of the estate. A 15 minute walk almost all on old tarmac road in pleasant woodland finishing at the once stunning Lennox Castle. Small rough terrain section at start and finish. Road quite steep in places. Can be done as a circular walk by returning via the rear of the football training area.

At last the old castle estate ground are opened up again, so time for some caches up here. All but one of the hospital buildings have been demolished now, leaving only the garage and the castle, the complex of buildings were connected by over a mile of six foot high service tunnels from the power house carrying steam, water and electricity. The castle itself was severely damaged by fire a few years ago and is NOT to be entered under any circumstances. The cache GZ is not within the fenced area around the castle. There are several places to start and park so you may wish to take a shorter route rather than my given instructions. Park at the new housing estate North of Lennoxtown, just off a small roundabout on the Glen Road, coords are in waymark list, from here walk South, ignore the red road into housing on the right, at the end of a wooden fence turn right, then turn right again North across rough ground and head for the small bridge (waymarked), this was a railway bridge allowing coal wagons on a spur to take coal from the Strathblane line directly to the power house. Do not cross river but turn left on to old tarmac castle main drive and follow this up through the woods to near GZ. The ruin on the right just before the castle is the much earlier Woodhead House, it was intentionally only partially demolished and planted with ivy after construction of the new Lennox Castle to make it look like a ruin. There may be plenty of muggles and duggles and cyclists about but GZ is fairly well screened. The cache is hidden in what was once a lovely garden area, however watch out for nature. ***Well done Albalad for FTF.*** 6 Jan 2012... I have discovered two of the access points for the tunnel system, any adult only Urban Explorers out there who want the details please message me.
