Novel Cache: The Hunt for Red October Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mario McTavish: OK so I came out today to do some maintenance on some of the caches along this little trail, and decided to check on the state of the others whilst here.

Having seen that most of them weren't put back where they were originally hid or were sadly in a poor state of repair I've elected to archive them. The downside to these 'novel' caches is that once the container is broken or missing then the cache really needs to go as it's no longer relevant.

Another cache found different to how it was hidden. It had been removed from the original hiding spot and was tossed into a tree. Also the bison tube that had been hidden inside (you needed to remove the lid to find the cache) had been cable-tied to the outside. Ho Hum...

Thanks to all the finders over the years.

Geocache Description:

A disguised cache container with log book, no room for swapa and please bring your own pen.

This cache is dedicated to the novel by Tom Clancy. The book focuses on a submarine commanded by Marco Ramius who's plan is to defect but he tells the crew that they are going to Cuba by using a new silent underwater propulsion system nicknamed 'Caterpiller Drive'. This brings the whole Russian Navy out into the atlantic to try to sink the Red October. The American president and other members of intelligence services decide that Ramius wants to park nuclear warheads off the United States. Jack Ryan however believes he may be trying to defect and is given three days to prove his theory and if he can't the Red October will be sunk.
A book packed with drama and suspense.

This is one of the Novel Cache series where we have tried to match the cache container or hitch-hiker to the title of a book, sometimes a bit of lateral thinking is required to spot the connection! We hope you have as much fun finding them as we did when we laid them! Most of the log containers are micro buffalo types but there are a few that are big enough for some small swaps.
