A walk in Orange Kloof with a picnic afterwards in
Kirstenbosch.

Orange Kloof is a restricted nature reserve controlled by the
waterworks. Orange Kloof is a unique area of the Table Mountain
Reserve as a large section of it has been protected from fire for
more than thirty years, and because it supports some of the largest
relic patches of indigenous forest on the Cape Peninsula.
No geocaches are placed in the reserve, and one is only
allowed in the reserve with a permit and a guide. Only 12 people
are allowed into the reserve each day. The walk part of the Event
will be purely social as there are no caches to find along the way.
The walk will be quite tough. The walk requires a very good level
of fitness, the ability to do some rock face climbs (scrambling - B
Grade) and no fear of heights. Some parts of the walk will need a
sense of adventure too.
The pace of the walk will be brisk,
but will be adapted to suite the slowest member of the group. I
have a permit that allows 12 people into the reserve. As places on
the walk are limited and will have to be given on a first come,
first served basis. The guide is not counted but requests one other
of the 12 places.. That
means there is space for 11 other walkers. If you have never
been into Orange Kloof I would strongly urge you to join the walk
as there are some spectacular Afro-montane forest to be seen. The
walk will happen rain or shine. No late cancellations please as it
unfair to those who didn't book a spot before the walk filled up.

walking.
Meet at the coordinates at 6:55am if
you are walking.
After the walk we will meet for a (bring your own) picnic in
Kirstenbosch Gardens. All geocachers who are unable to attend the
walk will be welcome as this is part of the Event. Meet in
Kirstenbosch at S 3359.341' E
018°25.928' at 13h30. Just remember that
the walkers could be a bit late. Feel free to start the party
without them!!
When replying please indicate if you intend to walk or are
coming for the picnic and how many people intend coming. Places on
the walk are reserved for geocachers. No more than 2 people per
group on the walk please. If space is available on the walk near
the time of the Event, this may be amended by request.
