Gibbet Hill Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dartmoor Dave: After the recent DNFs we decided to take little Callah for a walk to the top of the hill. I had already decided that if the cache was missing I would archive it, as it is rather a lonesome cache up here and found only occasionally. Judy and I had a very long search as I couldn't really remember the hide and likely spots had no cache. I am therefore archiving this and invite another Dartmoor cacher to place a cache here [:D]!

Geocache Description:

This is on the main route from Tavistock to Okehampton, a route apparently favoured by the local highwayman. Once caught they could end their days hanging from the gibbet here. It is possible that an iron cage also existed where villains were placed until they starved to death!

Today, there are extensive views of Dartmoor and Brent Tor with the Gibbet Hill trig point near by.

I would like to thank the Dartmoor National Park Authority for their kind permission to publish this cache.
