This is a safe locked travel house for trackables and swag close to Hwy 151 at exit 77 in Cascade. Take exit 77 and turn North park near barricade. If you take the direct route to the cache you will encounter the 2 ½ terrain rating or park by the barricades and take the gradual grade. Please be sure to relock the container, you must turn the combination while holding the lock closed. Be aware, this is meeting spot for people that car pool, so watch for muggles.
This is the story of the Cascade Safe House. Before coming to Cascade the spectacular exploits of John Y. Beall during the civil war had made him a marked man. With a small band of kindred adventurers he had led an attack upon Union gunboats on the Rappahannock River and affected their capture. He had directed the destruction of light houses along the Virginia shore, and his command had succeeded in capturing Union transports off the Atlantic coast. Weary and wounded, John Y. Beall, in the spring of 1864, crept to the Chew home in Cascade for refuge. His brother had come to Cascade some time before to engage in the milling business with Thomas Chew, whose wife's people, the Bemis family now from Maryland, and the Bealls of Virginia had been friends in the South. For these reasons the sick and injured Confederate hoped to receive aid and concealment at the Chew homestead until he recovered sufficiently to continue his journey. He arrived just at dusk about the first of June and stopped in a dark corner at the rear of the house. Mrs. Chew came outside for a bucket of water and he called to her, saying, “It’s John Beall, I'm wounded and I've come to you for protection.” She replied that she would be glad to aid him but that she must first obtain the consent of Mr. Chew. She took him inside, gave him his supper, and led him upstairs to a bedroom. Then she laid the case before her husband and asked what she should do. "Maggie", he said, "attend to his wound as a man, but I do not want to know anything about him as a rebel." Mrs. Chew dressed his bullet wound herself, and removed some small pieces of bone. During the long hot summer of 1864 she nursed the Confederate refugee back to health and strength, and his presence at the Chew home was known only to a few intimate friends of the family. One night upon learning the Union Army knew of his whereabouts, John Beall, the spy, rode his horse out of Cascade and out of the lives of his devoted friends. Making his way back to Windsor to carry out his dastardly plans at last, fate decreed he be captured. It was at Niagra City on the night of December 16, 1864, that he was taken. After a trial before a military commission begun on February 1, 1865, which lasted four days, Beall was found guilty and sentenced to be hung on February 18th. The Chew homestead was a safe haven for John Y. Beall. The Hwy 151 Exit 77 Travel Safe House will be a safe haven for all trackables. Many muggles are taking trackable items and are keeping them. This safe house will stay locked to keep trackables out of the hands of muggles. Please don't take all of the trackables.....
