Tips for creating a puzzle Mystery Cache

After my last puzzle, I wasn't sure I was going to do any more. Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. But I decided to make a list of guidelines to help me when I made my next puzzle. I hope it is helpful to you too.

WestSideDaddies tips to creating a good puzzle

1. Nice hints will help people to solve your puzzle.
2. Check your work as you go.
3. Ignore it if it takes a few days to get solved.
4. Creative puzzles are always fun to solve.
5. Feel free to use some ideas from someone else.
6. Recreate the solution from scratch to test it.
7. Have someone else check your logic.
8. Forcing things will not make it better.
9. Jargon and Technical terms can be a good challenge.
10. Help solvers by providing some clues in the puzzle.
11. Instructions should be easy to follow.
12. Just take your time and make sure it is all accurate.
13. If all else fails, ask for some help.
14. Challenge yourself to find a new idea.
15. Hold back on the give-away hint until after the first solve.
