MORAVSKÁ BRÁNA - MORAVIAN GATE
Moravská brána je tektonická sníženina mezi Moravskoslezskými Beskydami a Nízkým Jeseníkem. Tvoří ji plochá pahorkatina s nejvyšším bodem – Lučickou Stráží (nadmořská výška 339 metrů). Tento úval je dlouhý 65 kilometrů a široký 4 až 9 kilometrů. Moravskou bránu protisměrně protékají Bečva a Odra. Prochází tudy hranice (rozvodí) jejich povodí. Od pravěku tudy procházela Jantarová stezka, starověká obchodní cesta, po které se dopravovali bronzové výrobky, bronzovina a jantar od Severního a Baltského moře na jih Evropy a k Černému moři. Za dob Habsburské monarchie tudy byla vedena jedna z prvních a nejdůležitějších železničních tratí. Dnes je to spojnice Podyjí přes Moravu do Slezska. V severovýchodní části Moravské brány, nedaleko města Odry, se nachází Chráněná krajinná oblast Poodří. Moravská brána je zajímavá prolínáním rostlinných a živočišných druhů obou soustav, východní Karpatskou a západní Sudetskou.I když je zde dokládána přítomnost pravěkých lovců, její průchodní funkce pro lidská společenstva se dá archeologicky doložit až z mladší a pozdní doby bronzové.

Moravian Gate is a Tetriary period depression that creates a border between eastern
Karpatian and western Sudeten system. Two big rivers run through the area – the Odra
and the Beăva. Each of these rivers flows into a different sea – the Baltic and Black Sea– which means that this area in an important European watershed. The area of MoravianGate of present times is the result of a long geological development, which lasted for more than 350 million years.Moravian Gate has always connected the Baltic Sea on the north with the Mediterranean Sea on the south and the Atlantic Ocean on the west with areas near the Black Sea on the east. Old chroniclers called this area Porta Moravica. It is an ancient trading and military road between east and west and between north and south. Also, the famous Amber path leading from the Baltic to the Roman Empire led through this area. Many historical events took place here; for example military attacks of the Tartars, Swedes,and Hungarians, and also Napoleon’s army fled through here after their defeat near Moscow in 1812.Nowadays, Moravian Gate develops under the influence of changes of the riverbed, development of settlement and industry, intensification of agriculture as well as an important role as a transport corridor. Due to all these activities, originally balanced, but extensively exploited area changed into cultural and disturbed area.
