Geocache Description:

The building to the west of GZ was once Lockport School and this road used to be called Lockport School Road prior to being renamed Lyall Road in the 1980s.

My Mother, Margie, attended Lockport School from grade 1 to grade 10. She recalls that when she began school here there were 2 separate buildings, an East building and a West building. When there got to be too many children, they attached the 2 buildings with a middle section. After some time, the community grew again and further expansion was needed; this time they added on to the back of the East side.

This school remained open into the 1960s. After the school was closed it became the Lockport Community Club. When I was a child the club used to have summer carnivals. At one of these carnivals I recall my cousin, who was around 7 at the time, caught the greased pig. It was pretty funny seeing a bunch of little kids chasing a greased pig around an outdoor rink. I can still see my cousin lying on the ground covered in mud, hanging on to the pig's back foot and the pig squealing away. What a sight! My Uncle who transported the pig in his van thought his van was quite a sight as well. Apparently pigs aren't toilet trained.

Later on, when I was a young adult in the 1980s, I attended socials here. Shortly after that time, the building was sold to a kennel club. The kennel club ran for a few years before the building was sold again. The new owners renovated the building and turned it into a private residence.
