Geocache Description:

A cache for hikers on the old, paved mainly, trail from Malia to Mochos.

This old trail was built during WWI by Bulgarian prisoners, so the locals know it as the Bulgarian trail. It’s all marked with red signs.

It starts in the outskirts of the town of Malia (see WP) and ends by the football stadium of Mochos village. At some points you will need to pass through fences, just open the gate and then close it behind you. Fences in Crete are meant for animals, not humans. Hiking all along the trail takes nearly two hours. Mochos is a beautiful village, a nice place for a rest, offering food or coffee.

We placed this cache on a hike we organized from Malia to Mochos along this trail, but then we continued to Profitis Elias Hill and ended down in Potamies village.

The cache is hidden in the middle of the trail. It offers a great view over Malia, Stalida and Hersonissos. Good hiking shoes and a lot of water are recommended.

Enjoy the Cretan landscape!
