Geocache Description:

This is one of 25 caches Q125 Mesquite Geocache Challenge placed within the City of Mesquite as one of the many events throughout the year to help celebrate Mesquite’s Quasquicentennial: A year-long event to foster a pride of community, as well as develop an appreciation for Mesquite’s history.

This cache is placed near the Florence Ranch Homestead, 1424 Barnes Bridge Road, Mesquite. After moving from Van Zandt County, David W. and Julia S. Florence built the first of several buildings of the homestead between 1871-1872. At one time the homestead covered over 730 acres and was known as Meadow View Farm. Florence Florence Schultz, David’s granddaughter, and her daughter, Julie Morris, donated the property to the City of Mesquite for preservation. A Texas Historical Marker was dedicated in 1978.
