This is one of 25 caches Q125 Mesquite Geocache Challenge placed within the City of Mesquite as one of the many events throughout the year to help celebrate Mesquite’s Quasquicentennial: A year-long event to foster a pride of community, as well as develop an appreciation for Mesquite’s history.
This cache is placed within Mesquite Cemetery, 400 Holley Park Dr., Mesquite. The earliest marked grave in this site was that of Britanna Santifee Chapman, a three-year-old who passed away on Christmas Eve, 1859, thus establishing the cemetery. It is located outside what would become the downtown area of the community of Mesquite, which was established in 1873. A Texas Historical Marker was dedicated at the cemetery in 2001.
