Basic Rules:
1. The purpose of the Leap Year TB Race is to HAVE FUN! All grumblers and complainers will be forced to find and clean Fren-z’s “Ponder This” cache. (GCPB7K) (Yuck!)
2. Race begins February 29, 2012 and ends February 28, 2013 at 11:59 pm EST. Participants may place their TB(s) in cache(s) of their choosing, and they may be placed before the start of the race. However, if the TB is moved before the starting date, no points will be allowed.
3. The TB and the traveler are the property of the owner. The owner takes responsibility for securely attaching the TB to the traveler, and for potential theft or mishandling during the race.
4. When activating your TB, please enter the initials TBR (stands for Travel Bug Race) before your TB’s name. This will allow our TBs to be alphabetized together in the watch list. (Example: If your TB’s name is “Elvis Express,” then enter it as “TBR Elvis Express.”)
5. Dipping is permitted. Each month, all miles will be totaled, divided by 100, then rounded off to the nearest whole number.
6. TBs will be identified with a racing tag, so cachers will know the TB is in a race.
7. Contestants are forbidden from moving LVG Race TBs, theirs or anothers.
8. The host will tally and post scores monthly. (Updates may occur sooner if the host deems it necessary.)
9. Contestants are encouraged to place competitors’ TBs on their “watch list.” Should a discrepancy in points and standings arise, we can monitor each others’ calculations for accuracy.
10. In the event that a TB ends up missing, the owner must make an attempt to contact the cache owner and verify the TB’s status. If the TB is truly missing, you may re-enter the race using your copy tag, and you will also need to add a “race tag” to let cachers know your bug is in a race. You are allowed to release a copy tag only once during the course of the event. All points earned up to the point your original TB went missing will count. However, mileage and border crossings between the last cache visited and the first cache your copy visits, will NOT count. Please contact the race host BEFORE releasing a copy TB.

1. Points for mileage will be based on the miles recorded on the TB’s webpage. On the last day of the month, the miles traveled will be added, then the total divided by 100, and rounded off to the nearest whole number. The lowest number given each month will be 1. (Example 1: A TB travels 47 miles for the month. The total would only be .47 points, but the bug receives 1 point, since every TB receives at least one point per month for mileage. Example 2: A TB travels 935 miles, the points would be 93.5, then rounded off to 94 points.)
2. TBs will score points for border crossings. However, only “new” borders will be counted once per cacher. (Example: A cacher lives in PA and dips TB in NJ—this is a “new” border, points awarded. The cacher returns to PA and dips the TB—PA is a “new” border, points awarded. Next day, the cacher returns to NJ and dips the TB—points NOT awarded, since points are awarded once for each new border per cacher. The cacher travels south into DE—this is a “new” border, points awarded; then returns home to PA—points NOT awarded.) If a TB leaves The United States, only international borders will be counted, not provincial or state borders within that country.
3. Points for posting pictures will only be awarded once per cacher. TBs receiving multiple pix from one cacher will not earn extra points, though it is encouraged to help document the TBs travels.
4. If a TB visits a cache that has either a difficulty or terrain rating of 2.5 or higher, it will earn points for D/T.
5. Points for attending an event are only awarded once per event.
6. If a TB attends a CITO or MEGA event, it earns points for that event, only. In other words, a TB does NOT receive points for attending a CITO event, plus points for attending an event, a total of 70 points; it would receive 50 points, only.
7. In order to help TBs with the lowest score, at the end of each month, the two TBs with the lowest total score will receive a “handicap” of 10 points, each. Should there be more than 2 TBs with the “lowest score,” then all lowest score TBs receive the handicap. (Ex. It’s the end of the first month of the race, and 4 TBs have not moved; they each receive the handicap.)
8. In the event a situation arises that is not addressed by the rules, the host, after conferring with race organizers, reserves the right to make judgment in keeping with the spirit of the race.
