The Cocteau Twins have been my favorite band since my freshman year of college. The ethereal, dream-like sounds of Robin Guthrie, Simon Raymonde, and singer Elisabeth Fraser have often been called the "Sound of God".
Listen to Cocteau Twins- Frou-Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires
The band formed in Scotland in 1979, released 8 full length albums, a number of EPs and singles, and disbanded in 1997. While their early work was often compared to Siouxsie and the Banshees, they began to develop their own unique sound with 1983's "Head Over Heels", and have influenced countless subsequent bands in the Dream Pop and Shoegazer genres. Almost as otherworldly and bizarro as the seemingly gibberish lyrics of Elisabeth Fraser were the song's random and ridonculous titles. This cache is one of many that will be hidden as a tribute to the band's Kafka-esque creativity. Sometimes, the titles may have some kind of meaning in the context of the hide- other times, the titles will be utterly meaningless and random- as I am guessing they were for the Cocteau Twins. Along with the unusual vocalizations and creative song titles, the Cocteau Twins employed creative cover art with their album covers. 23 Envelope did many of the covers for releases on the 4AD label. 2 of the 3 images here were used on two of my favorite Cocteau Twins albums.
