The cache is not at the published coordinates, that would put you in the Portland tidal race. Do not attempt to go there!
The Portland race can be an extremely turbulent stretch of water created in part by the Shambles Bank which is about three miles east of Portland. The Shambles Bank is shallow and constricts the tidal flow, depending on the state of the tide and the weather you might see a very calm sea or a mass of white water.
The intention was to place the cache icon on the location of the West Shambles light buoy which is at approximately N 50° 29.780 W 002° 24.450. Unfortunately that’s a little too far away from the final cache location to comply with placement rules.
The buoy can be seen from where the cache is located and on some days if the wind is in the right direction it can be heard.
If you put the above coordinates into your GPS when near the cache site and you may be able to see the buoy. The light on the buoy flashes quickly 9 times in a row, pauses for the remainder of a 15 second cycle and repeats.

The cache is just off a well trodden path, you won’t need to climb over or disturb any stone walls. You will probably need to navigate a stile or two depending on the route you take.
