The "Blenheim & Woodstock" station and railway line were constructed by the Duke of Marlborough and privately run until 1897 when they became part of the Great Western Railway. The station closed in February 1957 and the line has lain abandoned ever since. In 2005 Woodstock Town Council acquired the old Woodstock line (OWL) and in 2006 the area was developed into a small linear nature reserve. The land is managed for ecological and public interest by local volunteers as a community project. Regular work parties help to cut back brambles and carry out wildlife surveys. Recent wildlife surveys conducted on this slim piece of land indicate the presence of slow worms, grass snakes, red list birds and orchids. All here for us to enjoy!
