small box with room for visiting toys etc. in an attractive wooded area.
Marl is a lime rich mud. It was once used by local farmers to improve the soil. Deposits were dug out of the ground and spread on clay soils. After work finished here the pits were abandoned, then used as a rubbish dump before being protected by the local town council. These marl pits have been allowed to revert to nature and are now a lovely secluded wooded area. The cache is a short walk along a footpath through the pits.
NOTE the slopes can be slippery especially when wet, please take care.
