Phoenixville Penn Station Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

One of my first more difficult finds (although I'm sure some GC vets will find it easy) in a spot that surprised me didn't already have a geocache.

This location was once a Railroad Station on the Pennsylvania Railroad. From an article found on Patch.com, the Historical Society of Phoenixville says:
The Pennsylvania Railroad Station was located on Vanderslice Street west of the Gay Street bridge.

The Pennsylvania Railroad built this attractive depot on the side of Black Rock Hill in 1883 and landscaped the grounds with flowerbeds. The interior contained a central ticket office flanked by separate waiting rooms for men and women. During its heyday the depot served as the gateway for visitors and patients from all over the U. S. to the Valley Forge General Hospital.

When passenger service on the Schuylkill Valley was discontinued in the early 50s the station interior was remodeled for freight use. After a massive fire in 1985 the building was razed in 1986.

The cache is hidden between the stations former spot and the railbed (looks like the rails have been removed since the time I first wandered down here). It is a rubermaid container containing a log and pen. I am uncertain of how the vegetation will effect the cache come spring and summer since this was hidden in February. Please hide the cache as good as or better than you found it, it looks like this area is well traveled by muggles.

Let me know if you think I should alter my difficulty rating. Enjoy!
