The Toppled Behemoth Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is placed to introduce cachers to the Spring Creek Canyon/ State Game Lands 333 natural area. It should provide a short brisk uphill climb, or a lazy level meandering walk depending on where you start.
At one point Spring Creek was stripped of timber, both to feed the local iron furnaces and to create arable land for farming. A cursory glance at most of the trees in this area illustrate they are nearly all second growth and less than 50-60 years old. A rare few trees were allowed to stand, and this cache is located at the fallen remains of one of these monsters. It's location along an old stone row may have led to it's survival, as trees were often allowed to remain at the edges of farmer's fields to provide shade for work animals and to slow wind erosion. If you have time, take note of how nearly all of the largest trees in this area grow from these rows.
NOTE: As with any SGL cache, please wear blaze orange or hunt this on Sundays.
