This cache is the 32nd point on the Dartmoor Forest boundary, as established by the 1240 Perambulation. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.
Cullever was the location of matching sets of steps over the Black-a-ven Brook and East Okement River just before they merge. Now there are paved fords and concrete bridges over the river, which are more practical, but less picturesque.
The name “Cullever” comes from the fords that lie here, which lie at the corner of the newtake walls for the Hartor enclosures. They were the “Corner Fords”, which has been corrupted to Cullever.
From the fords, you can see the tumbledown Irishman’s Wall, which marches a straight line up the Belstone Tors and points almost directly towards the summit of Cosdon Hill, and the end of the perambulation.
If doing this cache as a standalone, the nearest parking is at the Southern Water works (waypoint below). Follow the track directly to the Cullever.
If doing the Perambulation as a route, the next point on is Hairpin Ford. Follow the Irishman’s Wall up and over the Belstone Tors, then head south of the wall towards the ford.
