Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Colonel James Fannin and his 341 men who were slaughtered by Santa Anna's men. This was Aether Paranormal's first full team investigation. We journeyed to the Presidio La Bahia in Goliad, Texas in September of 2008. We stayed the weekend alone in the officer's quarters and things did go "bump" in the night. Presidio La Bahia - Sept. 08

Goliad is located about 2 hours east of Austin, TX, in a historically charming and rich in character town. The Presidio La Bahia has reported various hauntings since the horrible massacre of 1842, when Colonel James Fannin's 341 men were manipulated to the fort under false pretenses and then brutally slaughtered. There were only 28 reported survivors. It now holds what is said to be the largest grave ever dug in Texas.

CREEPY EVIDENCE: (visit link)

Over the course of our stay, our 5 person, ghost hunting investigation team had some interesting encounters. We were graced with the presence of Mr. William Corey (AKA: Bill) who generously spent the day taking us on a ghost tour of the entire town and its many graveyards.

One night, we all had different experiences that could be considered paranormal when put together. Our team member, Matt had disturbing lucid dreams of being devoured by a foggy black mass in the living quarters, while a few of us simultaneously awakened to the smell of smoke. Matt was sleeping on the sofa in the main room where a father and son fled in the middle of the night after seeing a female ghost sitting on this very couch. We later learned that this was the burial ground where bodies had been piled up and violently burned. Was someone trying to tell us something?

While on a night investigation in the courtyard, we all five saw a black shadowy figure race across the doorway leading into the chapel area. We ran towards it, but it seemed to disappear into thin air. If it was an animal, it sure knew how to move, and escape a nearly inescapable structured area really well. Shad reported it looking like a deformed creature.

Other than this, we captured some very interesting EVP’s. We were never able to decipher what was being said, but there were definite impressions caught on our recorder. One sounded like a small child maybe saying: “It doesn’t fit.” The other sounded like an animal shrieking directly into our hand held recorder. The odd thing is, none of us heard or responded to this strange noise when it happened in “real-time.”

Ghosts or no ghosts, the Presidio La Bahia is a mysterious yet beautiful fortress, and we will be marveling over it for a very long time.
