Geocache Description:

A small container with room for small items. As I drove past this area for the last 2 years on the way to/from work as they completed it I have found that its a great place in the warmer months to walk the geopuppies & bike. And I thought there was no better way to share the new found beauty than to hide some caches so that others can enjoy it as well.

**CONGRATS FOR FTF GO TO SILVERLOCK0*** Ship Canal Commons is host to recreational activities like fishing and hiking and also includes bike and walking trails, over 400 native tree species and a foot bridge that spans 200 linear feet over the Union Ship Canal. The multi-use trails connect pedestrians to the Outer Harbor, Tifft Nature Preserve and the Seaway Trail. Wildlife habitat improvements are an important part of this environmental restoration project. The Union Ship Canal, technically located in Buffalo, is, for practical purposes, the boundary between Buffalo and Lackawanna. The Canal was dug by the Goodyears for access by lake freighters to the Susquehanna Iron Company and Pennsylvania RR's ore docks. The Susquehanna plant changed hands and was owned by Hanna Furnace for some time. Bethlehem Steel operated the short section of dock from rt. 5 to the harbor.
