The Devils Jumps Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Long Man: I have made two requests for this cache to be maintained and the listing is still disabled. I feel the owner has had sufficient time to carry out the required maintenance, but has failed to do so.

Because of this I'm archiving the cache.

Geocache Description:

The cache is situated in a good location for those walking the South Downs of West Sussex. From nearby there are great views over Chichester towards the Isle of Wight and over the Milland Valley. The cache was recently revamped by the owner, with a new sealed box, log book, local information sheets and goodies. and has now been placed back at the Devils Jumps,

The cache has been placed within the 'Devils Jumps' enclosure, burial mounds dating back to 3500 BC, and is on level ground at an altitude of 700 feet. It can be approached from a small parking area at the top of Treyford Hill, which involves a 1 mile walk up a gentle incline, or from the Harting Down car park, for those who want to enjoy wonderful views and a bracing walk along the South Downs. There are also details in the cache of many points of local interest in the area. All of these are within walking distance of the cache, so take a day out on the Downs, visit the cache and then enjoy the West Sussex countryside. A green plastic box contains the cache, consisting of games, toys, GPS goodies from time to time, and lots of information about the local area. When you've completed the cache, take a few paces back across the South Downs Way towards the animal enclosure. Have a good look at the variety of animals and you'll start to discover a common thread and a link to Central and South America! If you interest is piqued, take a wander East along the South Downs Way for half a mile, keeping your eyes to the right of the path. If you look and listen carefully, strange and exotic birds can be seen, but if you happen to catch a glimpse of Monkton House through the trees and undergrowth, you really won't believe your eyes as they're teased with momentary glimpses of Salvador Dali's exotic designs and artwork. Please note: Monkton House is a private residence. Please respect their privacy at all times and do not cross any of their boundaries, fences or gates! As the Devils Jumps is a wild area, the nettles and undergrowth will always cover the area quickly, which make the cache a challenging find. So, take some time to enjoy the geocache and the location! Happy hunting.
