Long before homes, businesses, ranches, and farms established roots in this part of Provo, the nearby Provo River delta was once a spirited lass whose skirt swirled over the wetlands at will.
Hindered by the confines of levees, the Provo River delta rarely dances over the grasses as she once did. In the 1800's it was reported that her stage covered over 2,500 acres. Now she's a mere shadow of silt seen only from aerial box seats.
Lingering hints of her magnificent performances surround this cache. Ancient troupes of springs fill low areas on the massive stage, waiting for their lead performer to reappear. These days, promoters sometimes dig 6" - 20" near the main thoroughfare in order to flaunt tantalizing evidence of Provo River delta's exotic talent.
