Geocache Description:

On 11th August 2012, we are inviting the National and International Geocaching communities to come together, and experience the very best of the North West, at the 5th Annual UK Mega Event, being held at Cartmel Racecourse, Cumbria. This is the one of a series of regional events being held across the 5 counties of the North West to mark the countdown to the Mega

2012 UK Mega Event

When:
Sunday 27th May 2012 from 1pm until 4pm

Where:
Miller Park, Preston

Details:
This event is being hosted by Irene & Clare of the Linedancers as they where both born and bred in the Lancashire town and are very proud of their heritage. They will be supported by many of the mega committee on the day. When Irene was a small girl she used to come here to roll her eggs on Easter day, and they still continue that tradition today.

The Preston Guild is only held every 20 years (hence the famous saying in Preston "Once in every Preston Guild") so there will be plenty of events and going on, in and around Preston for the whole of 2012.

Miller Park is one of the older parks in Preston It was designed and built in the 1860s and has matured over the last 140 years into one of the most attractive parks in the region. It is an English Heritage Grade 2 listed park, and we often love to take a stroll besides the river Ribble, the river on which the town stands. It was designed by Edward Milner as a “Harmonious Whole” that also includes the park next to it called Avenham Park.

This event will be by the river and we would be grateful if you would keep a close watch on young children and dogs as the river is very fast flowing and very deep. Please come along and bring your picnic and a chair or a rug to sit on. There is a cafe and toilets on hand, and plenty to look at in the park including the Japanese gardens. We will have a few games to play (cricket, rounders and maybe a little football for the young at heart.)

There is plenty of parking at different point around the park (see waypoints) and if you feel like coming on your bike, they are allowed as well
