As with many small towns across the country, each has felt the loss of one of its own while serving in the military. This park is one of the ways in which Clayton memorializes those who have lost their lives over the decades.
---> Note: This cache is no longer a "Multi" due to the absence of the memorial plaques.<---
The starting point honors Richard E. Hogus, Jr. who served during WW II. To proceed to the next stage, identify the branch in which he served:
Army, N = .687 W = .768
Navy, N = .695 W = .769
Coast Guard, N = .669 W = .750
To reach the next plaque, identify this infantryman's Company:
C., N = .687 W = .777
F., N = .634 W = .765
B., N = .733 W = .845
To reach our final plaque, for whom this park is named, identify the holiday on which this Marine lost his life:
St. Crispin's Day, N = .629 W = .802
St. Patrick's Day, N = .672 W = .825
St. Valentine's Day, N = .707 W = .847
The cache is at the location that corresponds to this soldier's (and my) favorite sport:[Hint: Look around you!]
- bowling, N = .634 W = .765
- wrestling, N = .655 W = .846
- soccer, N = .630 W = .855
5/7/13 NOTE: I have been assured by a member of the soccer association that the benches will remain as placed until the fall. Please enjoy the cache as intended. Thanks.
9/12/12 NOTE: This cache has been modified (one less stage) and updated (due to waypoint relocations). Additionally, there is now a hint for the final. This multi cache has always been meant to be easy, brief and informative and I think it is now more so. It had been suggested that I change the final stage because it can be located without progressing through the stages. Although this is true, that is not the intent nor spirit of this cache. But, because the waypoints are subject to movement, that option will remain available when necessary.
Thanks to everyone for all the positive reviews.
