The related web page above is a link to a printable map of the course. When printing, select landscape mode and 0.2 inch margins in order to get the whole map on one sheet. Several of the caches in the series are named after parts of the mountain bike course labelled in the map.
The Test of Humanity is an annual mountain bike race held on the trails on and around Cartwright Mountain. All of the caches in this series will be located on, or near, the bike course. When caching in Spring, Summer or Fall, please be aware of riders on the course. I would suggest walking the route in a counter-clockwise direction (the opposite direction of the bike race), so you can see any oncoming riders.
Both human members of The Famous Three were involved in building the course. Our dog accompanied us on these outings, but was only helpful when sticks needed to be moved!
One of us volunteered on race day of the inaugural event in September 2011, while the other took on the 4 hour test. For those interested in participating, there are shorter options than this! There is also a flat 1 km loop for kids.
This series of caches is intended to help draw attention to this worthwhile event, while adding to the six pre-existing caches along the 10 km loop. You can make your way around on foot or on mountain bike. However, please do not take a motorized vehicle on the trails. Several hundred man hours were needed to build the single track for this event.
The route is not overly technical for an intermediate mountain biker. It does have significant undulations and requires caution when riding (especially on some of the descents) and would not be appropriate for a beginner. As a bike ride, it definitely gives you a good cardio workout. If you are planning on riding the course on your mountain bike and want more specific information of the nature of the course, please contact us through our geocaching profile.
This cache is located at the beginning of a challenging climb that is aptly named. It shouldn't be too hard to get to if travelling on foot. The cache is a green bison tube. There is only room for the logbook so please use your own pen or pencil to write your initials.
