Located on Prison Camp Road, this 3x3 lock and lock container should be a pretty quick park and grab. A large gravel pull-off area at the intersection of Windy Gap Road and Prison Camp Road will accomodate several cars and is less than 30 yards from this cache.
This is near the DOT Maintenance Garage which is the site of the old prison camp.
In 1931 the state highway department took over the department of prisons. Prison camps were located in Macon and 16 other counties across the state, primarily for the convenience of road building and repair. In 1957, the General Assembly separated the state prison department from the State Highway and Public Works Commission. As part of this change, the Council of State recommended consolidation of prison operations that resulted in the closing of prisons in 15 counties, including Macon. These prison properties were assigned to other state agencies and the Macon camp became the DOT Highway Maintence Department.
FTF Honors go to Jay8thsin. Congrats!
